WHAT IS BUFTA ACADEMY ROADSHOW?
Coming to a school near you! This year, the BUFTA Academy will focus on any topics you wish to discuss related to film and television.
The BUFTA Academy provides an exclusive opportunity to meet one of our industry experts, learn about the area of film and television through workshops, and preparation for BUFTA. Should the dates not be suitable for you, please indicate your preferred date via the ‘alternative date button’ located at the bottom of the registration selection:
- Sydney (and surrounds): 9th – 13th March
- Adelaide (and surrounds): 16th – 20th March
- Melbourne (and surrounds): 23rd – 27th March
- Perth (and surrounds): 30th March – 3rd April
- Darwin (and surrounds): 8th June – 12th June

BUFTA Student Academy
The BUFTA Student Academy is an opportunity for high school students to meet and talk to our teaching staff and industry experts directly about film and television and to prepare them to enter BUFTA.
Students will have the choice between two workshops – one in camera tech and shooting and one in editing. These workshops are offered to students with all levels of filmmaking experience; from beginners to advanced.
9am – 10am – Roadshow session
10am – 12pm – Camera tech and shoot
12pm – 1pm – Lunch
1pm – 3pm – Editing in Premier
where do ideas come from, stories audiences want to watch, analysing film language – tell more of the story with your shots. A discussion about ideas and inspiration for your stories. Understand film language through analysing scenes in order to strengthen your own storytelling. Brainstorm a short scene which we will shoot and edit in the other sessions.
Camera tech and shoot
Understanding cameras better, Using depth of field to enhance your frame, limitations with sound on DSLR cameras. Short scenes will be filmed in groups.
Editing in Premier
Your opportunity to ask questions in Premier Pro – this session will allow to explore editing timing and techniques while you cut together your scenes filmed in the previous session.
NOTE: For the edit session: if students bring a USB hard-drive or suitable USB drive they can take their footage home with them.
BUFTA Teachers Masterclass
The BUFTA Masterclass is designed to help teachers help students.The BUFTA Masterclass is a highly coveted, hands-on series of professional development workshops that incorporate key aspects of filmmaking into an action packed day of training. The two-day event offers a range of options for experienced teachers, or teachers who are ready to take the next step. Teacher’s will have the choice between a filmmaking or screenwriting workshop.
